MICROWAVE JESUS


At the end of the summer I had committed to directing a staged reading (more workshop) production of a Gilbert (Sans Sullivan) play.
It was being done at a theatre that was about 30-50 minute drive for much of the cast.  The cast consisted of almost all non-believiing actors most of the Jewish (of course!).
I tried whenever i could to find rehearsal spaces that were not as far away. One day I had the opportunity to do this at my office since everyone was out that day.

At 1pm the rehearsal was to start and I arrived early downstairs to get coffee, water, etc. set while my assistant (SM) was setting upstars for rehearsal. I knew I needed to be there as they arrived since the office contains alot of materials on the wall about Y'shua, and other such things. At 12:52 I was about to take the elevator upstairs when a young man from UCLA, Chris, walked in the door.  He had heard that perhaps there was some wisdom in Jewish writings and had previously seen such  books in the window. He was wanting to find some 'truth' in the world.

I told him I cold meet hiim back there on Tuesday and that it was good he was searching  because God had designed us to work together with him in this world.

"Yeah,  that makes sense,", Chis said, '  "But something is not working"

Oh dear. I looked down at my cell phone. I now had only 7 minutes to get upstairs before the cast walked in.

"Well," I went on.  "That is because we have all done things wrong."  I went on to explain to him as succinctly as I could the problem of sin and how that separates us from a holy God.   "So, I concluded, "Our relationship with our creator is broken now.  I'd love to talk to you more about this on Tuesday, if you're around then"

Chris promptly responded - to what I had just explained. "Yes, I can meet you on Tuesday. But if things are broken, how do we fix it?"

5 1/2 minutes left.

"Chris have you ever been to church", I queried.

"No'

I continued, :Have you ever heard the Gospel"?

No. what's that?"

Have you ever heard about Jesus?"

Well, Chris responded, 'I've heard of Jesus of course, but I don't really know much about who he was."

Okay.  I now had less than 5 minutes.   I told Chris I would explain really quickly God's plan for us and then meet him back on Tuesday to continue the discussion.

Yada - da yadda- ya- yadda -  I went on at a very quick pace explaining the miracle of how God send his son for us.  "So,  I caught my breath with just seconds to go. Jesus says, Behold I stand at the door and knock and if anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and 'live' with him."


I had completed the fasted presentation of the gospel I had ever given to someone who knew nothing.  (And i can talk fast!)/   WIth the few seconds I had left I was going to say goodbye when I heard Chris say, 

:Everything you said makes a lot of sense. I think He's knocking at my door now"

I had less than a minute.  "Do you believe what I just told you is true?", I queried.

He said it all made sense and that he did.  We prayed and invited Jesus to be his Lord and to come into his life. Chris looked up he was glowing. Just then the receptionist Susan came into the room. Whew!

"Susan, this is Chris", I rushed. " He just invited Christ into his life. Can you get his phone number, his email and give him my phone, my email and a BIble?  Chris have you ever read the Bible? (He shook his head no).  Okay, start reading this in the book of John for about 10 minutes each day. Susan will mark it for you. Ask God to help you understand it and write down your questions.  I'll see you Tuesday morning and - Welcome to the Kingdom. I'll see you Tuesday morning and well go over everything."

I got into the elevator, pushed the button and thought. Wow - that was like microwave Jesus. As the door opened the cast was walking in and looking around at the things on the walls about Jews who believe in Y'shua.  Another opportunity began as I explained.

About Chris - I wondered if he was pulling my leg .. until he called the next day.

He was not. Chris has come to several Bible Studies.  He was put in touch with our youth group leader and they have also met and he is starting to get involved with other believers. Pray for Chris to continue to grow in his faith and get plugged in.

It was in the next couple of weeks that the Lord brought this event to mind to remind me of the new season I believe we are moving into.
